In July of 2010, Three Seabee's set off from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area on a motorcycle trip to join another group of Seabee's from the Chicago area that had been doing a memorial motorcycle run ever since their Seabee battalion NMCB 25 returned from Iraq in the fall of 2006. The three bee's from Minneapolis participated in the Fallen Hero’s run in Aledo, IL, in which they visited thier fallen Seabee brothers BU1(SCW) Jerry Tharp and EO1(SCW) Gary Rovinski's final resting places. After the Memorial Ride the two groups met up and socialized in Seabee fashion. The following day the three bee's from Minneapolis set off to Alden, IA to visit the final resting place of HM2(SCW) Jaime Jaenke who was also lost during the 2006 deployment. The experience was so moving and inspirational that it motivated the creation of the Swarm concept. As the Seabee brotherhood/sisterhood is vast around the world we created the concept so Seabee's will continue to honor and remember our fallen.
The Swarm concept is born from history. No matter where you are in the world, like all Bee's, Seabee's tend to Swarm. When you find one, there is likely another, and eventually you find yourself among the Swarm. A Seabee Swarm can happen at any time, anywhere, for any reason. A Swarm is any situation in which 3 or more Seabee's gather. Swarm's can include Seabee's active, reserve, retired, or other Seabee fans wanting to participate.
The Seabee Swarm is a 3 to 4 day motorcycle (preferred but not required) remembrance ride where we pay our respects to our fallen Seabee Sister and Brothers from NMCB-25.
Our 1,100 mile ride starts from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota to the Quad Cities Area of Illinois and a final stop in Alden Iowa.
